About

Daniel Nix is an accomplished musician, composer, conductor, and orchestrator of musical talent.

As a graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, the top performing musical arts institute in the United States, Daniel fine-tuned his musical talents under the direction of many prestigious musicians such as Walter Smith III, Luke Gillespie, Dr. Wayne Wallace, Dr. Michael Spiro, Jeremy Allen, Steve Allee, Pat Harbison, Al Shikaly, Otis Murphy, and Dr. Tom Walsh, the school’s Director of Jazz Studies.

Daniel’s degree in Jazz Saxophone Performance required precise discipline with the entire family of saxophones including the soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone.  Even more impressive is his diversity of other instrumentation including, but not limited to the jazz flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, and drums.

His ensemble experience extends far and wide and is exemplified with lead positions in well-known bands such as the IU Latin Jazz Ensemble, IU Singing Hoosiers band, IU Afro Cuban Combo, Stardusters Big Band, Steve Allee Big Band, Tom Walsh Big Band, Jeremy Allen Jazz Combo, Bloomington Big Band, Rick K and the All Nighters, and the Walter Smith III Jazz Combo.

Daniel has also played over many areas of the Midwest region including the Indianapolis Jazz Kitchen, the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater, and the Buzkirk Chumley Theater, the Indiana Roof Ballroom, and more.

As a conductor, talent orchestrator, and band leader, Daniel has created many different ensembles such as the Indianapolis Christmas Caroling Big Band, the Bloomington Christmas Caroling Big Band, the Dan Nix Big Band, and the Dan Nix Jazz Combo.  These ensembles have performed for national public spectators as well as for private dignitaries and audiences gathering at fund raising and charitable events.

As an accomplished soloist, Daniel specializes in many genres of music including Jazz, Latin, Rock, Funk, Pop, and Cuban where his use of the baritone, tenor, alto, and soprano saxophones are utilized to create a listening experience beyond no other.  His music can be found in churches, restaurants, outdoor amphitheaters, and even in the corporate world.
